Colorado Remembers

Last week I went to Denver to volunteer for 9/11 remembrance through Colorado Remembers.

I met two wonderful ladies named Karen and Donde who were in my volunteer group. What group did I get paired with? FOOD. Of course. Was it paelo food? No way. Quiznos, which next to Jimmy Johns has the best bread, the one thing I couldn't have. And chips. The salt. The crunchy. the savory taste. I didn't have any of it. No bread, starch, but all for the fact that my pants fit better than they ever have.

So instead, I opted in for 5 Sammy's with the meat and tomatoes only, nuts and homemade blackberry lemonade from one of the vendors at the event.
It was yum!!

We saw many patriotic dogs volunteering too. One dog had a Vietnam veteran owner.

The fully breaded Sammy's and waters we handed out we're for many VIP members of the event who chatted and schmoozed around before the ceremony. Of course I am typically awkward when I am "schmoozing" which is why I tend to migrate toward scenic photo options or in this case, awesome memorabilia from 911. In particular, the event had pipes of the East and West towers, which were draped over with and American flag.

The ceremony was a wonderful recap of the hard times we have faced in the USA and Colorado most recently with the wildfires and the aurora movie theater shooting followed by incredible perseverance and strength we have all displayed.

And if you haven't heard Hazel Miller before, you tube her and take a listen. She has an amazing voice, hinting of gospel and praise for our Father and I got front row seats for her concert after the ceremony.

Fall is in session

As I sit here on a holiday inn summit county balcony, I can look out over lake dillon and see the wonderful fall colors changing. The orange is very vibrant and the read is peaking through. Soon enough though, it will all turn again and we will be in winter, with mountain tops covered with snow and Christmas lights lining the streets. Even the gondola for Breckinridge shuts down for summer season of sightseeing and walking on dry group to open up in less than 80 days for ski season. What a wonderful place it is here.

So lo mo

It's the new craving of every business out there, of every entrepreneur and every college student and closet facebook stalker out there- so lo mo.

...Japanese you say? Nope just the new found slang word for #social media.

Everybody's doing it, blogging from their favorite place in the park, networking at business events, hanging out at the nearest coffee shop-tweeting about the best way to drink coffee and not burn your mouth....and doing it all....#mobily

I can say from 45 days of experience on my iPhone and 40 on an iPad, the Holiday inn summit county has joined the club

bikers, national anthems and fans

As I sit here and begin to blog about the US Pro Cycling Challenge, it dawns on me that I have only mountain biked 4 times this year.  I suppose it doesn't make things easier when a year ago, I got a black eye from flipping over the handlebars on slick rock in Moab and having to face regained confidence and then furthering my out-of-commission by dropping a 50lb barbell on my neck and 2 weeks later spraining some sort of bone in my foot by simply playing 3 softball games and 1 football game...how that is possible, I wouldn't know and now going back to crossfit is a far distant sight.  But, those "injuries" come and go and hopefully my accident prone self has only had a 2 year stint and I'll be back to normal for a heavy mountain biking summer next year.

Anyway...I'm not a negative person, so you have to laugh some times ;)

Some times you gotta cry too...my husband sang the national anthem for the US Pro Cycling Challenge Stage 5 in Breckenridge this year and I bawled like a little baby (good crying), so much that my attempted video of him looked like I was in the middle of an earthquake.  It's not everyday dreams come true like his did, singing in front of thousands of people.

Then...the bikers came and it was so much different than last year when I watched it in Silverthorne and the stage ended in Breckenridge.  I stood on the side of the street in Silverthorne with so many other people who had closed their businesses for an hour to watch the racers fly by, yellow jackets clearly defined.  This year, however, the stage started in Breckenridge and it wasn't the same. A clump of bikers circled main street 3 times, followed by many little sports cars before they took off over Hoosier Pass and onto highway 285 to Colorado Springs.  Pretty neat to see them come by us so many times.  The only yellow jacket I could see this year, was the blonde lady in front of me who was equally as excited to witness such a cool event.
